Golf gift ideas can be troublesome. Many golfers are similar - they don't receive so many golf gifts, rather they tend to buy them for themselves. It is the golfers gift paradox, you see. To problem is twofold. First, great gift ideas are seemingly hard to come by for most people. Second, most golfers are very particular about the golf accessories and gift items that they want. So you have perfect storm of non-gift giving.
We're here to help! Non-golfers, please pay close attention!

I'm pretty particular about the golf stuff I have. There are a lot of things that just cannot be given to me - I have to buy them for myself. For instance, I once had some co-workers give me a sweet Odyssey Tri-Force putter as a gift. While there is no denying that it was a great golf gift, I ended up selling it to...guess who? Yep - that putter is still in the Hack's bag. Point is, putters and any club for that matter, don't make great great gifts because they are such a personal choice. I'd go for things like pictures, divot tools, books and videos, gift certificates and things that allow the golfer to make his own choices.

I don't think a Christmas has past since 1981 when I didn't sign my name to the box of golf balls for my Dad. It's a great golf gift. IF.... You have to know what kind of balls to buy. For example, if I bought a box of Top Flights for ole Scratch up there, he'd use them on the range. Maybe. I'd need to shell out the $55 for the box of Pro V1x's. Just make sure you get what will be used. Here is a brief list of DO NOT BUY: Animal head covers, clubs (unless you know the EXACT club), shoes (unless accompanied by a gift receipt), naked lady novelty tees. Other than that, you're generally good to go. |
