The country club golf clothes you choose are important! Okay, some people say it's snooty and downright pretentious, but it isn't. The country club is one of the last places on earth where rules of decency and decorum still rule. Most golf clubs or country clubs have rules about what golf clothes you can wear. Most decent clubs require a golf shirt with a collar. Most will not allow jeans, cut off jeans and the like. So, choose your apparel wisely - there's nothing worse than showing up for your round and having to buy a new golf shirt because you came to play in a tee.

Some of the rules have changed a bit. Nike golf clothes, for example, are pushing the envelope of traditional country club attire. Shirts without collars are found all through the Nike line and even Tiger Woods has appeared in PGA events without a collar. What do Hack and Scratch think?

From Scratch

Farmington Country Club is my home course, and you can't show up an play without a collared shirt. This is perfectly okay with me. Growing up on the courses in Montgomery County, Maryland there were always strict rules about what you should be wearing. But here's the dirty little secret - most of the clothes you're required to wear are perfectly suited to the game!

The golf clothes you find in pro shops today are typically made with technical fibers and are cut for maximum movement and flexibility. Sure, there's some garbage out there, but for the most part, buy what you're supposed to and you'll be set up with the right equipment.

From Hack

Speaking to other Hacks across the country, I ask you...I beg you...don't dress the part. When you show up at the course, even if it's the municipal course down the street, please put on a decnt pair of shorts and a golf shirt. Don't plead the expense case either. You can go to Target and buy a nice country club golf shirt for under ten bucks - there is no excuse not to wear decent golfing clothes!

Those of you who hit the links with oversized cargo shorts and a concert tee shirt should be ashamed of yourself. And - it makes you look like an idiot.
