The Simple Golf Swing is a great way to LOWER YOUR SCORE - FAST. Check out this great golf improvement system.
Try it and Get Lower Scores! Which golf balls should you be playing? Well, that totally depends on two key factors: 1) How good of a golfer you are and 2) how much money you have to spend.
In all seriousness, for most golfers the type of ball you play will have very little impact on your score - for most golfers, that is. As your handicap gets lower and lower, the type of ball will have more of an impact on your ability to score. So, let's break this down...
From the Hack
Here's what I do. If I'm playing a round and I need to load up with some golf balls, I'll buy a sleeve of high-end Titleist golf balls and a sleeve of throw-aways. For example, I'll drop the $13.00 for three Pro V1x balls and then I'll pick up some Top Flights. On wide open holes, where I can slice one 200 yards and still find my ball, I'll break out a Pro V1x, line up the seam, and try to kill it (killing the ball is a great way to hit it really far). Even if I slice it ridiculously, I'll find it. So, that it's a $4.00 golf ball doesn't matter.
Next hole has woods tight on both sides and a water hazard that starts at 180 yards out and is 240 yards to clear. Do not under any circumstances, fellow high-handicapper, hit a $4.00 golf ball in this scenario. Break out the Top Flight and let'r rip into the water.
From Scratch
Okay, rule number one in golf is never listen to the hack when he tells you that swinging with everything you've got is the way to hit the ball far. That said...
The ball type makes a big difference for me. Depending on the construction of the ball, it can be softer, harder, have more or less spin and any number of other dynamics. For example, I find that I get about 10 more yards on an average drive off of a Pro V1x over a Pro V1. This has to do with the spin rate of the ball. I also have a little bit more control in shaping my shots with a softer cover. I had a really interesting revalation about Bridgestone golf balls a few weeks ago at my local shop. I guess the bottom line is...
It matters!
The feel of the ball is huge for me - especially around the greens. How the ball comes off the putter face can mean the difference between a 72 and a 69. My score is almost always decided on the greens and ball feel is huge.
