Golf Club Grips
Golf Club grips are such an easy thing to keep fresh and will help you play better! You can replace your grips quickly and inexpensively. Don’t just take my word for it – just listen to what our resident golf equipment evaluators have to say…
From Scratch
Why is it that most amateurs I play with let their grips turn to hardened cracked liabilities before they finally break down and have them re-griped? The grip has to be one of the most important and overlooked parts of our equipment. For me, there’s nothing like the feeling of a new Golf Pride, Tour Velvet grip. I usually re-grip my clubs at least twice a season and more often for my driver & wedges. It’s really easy to learn regripping golf clubs if you don’t already know how.
Like I said – I’m a bit fanatical about replacing my grips. After all, they’re the only part of the club that comes into contact with our hands and plays such a vital role in the feeling and feedback we receive during the swing. Do yourself a favor and replace your old, worn grips with a new set. You and your golf game will benefit and my bet is your scores will be lower as well.
There are many types of grips available to choose from. I personally prefer a rubber grip with a reminder ( ribbed, not round) I’ve been playing Tour Velvet’s for the last 15 years and haven’t found anything I like any better. Winn makes a variety of Synthetic grips that many club manufacturers use on their putters. Grips are fairly inexpensive starting at around $3.00 and going up to almost twice as much if you prefer chord.
From the Hack
Since I am the aforementioned Hack – I’ll defer to my esteemed colleague on this one. But I will add this – last Saturday I visited the Ping Van at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA. In my fitting the analyst said I have silly-large hands. He put me in a club with a grip just 1/16 larger (Ping orange) than standard and it was an incredible difference in feel. I began hitting the ball better immediately. Nuff said.
